You will feel a real part of Tuscan life in Ciacchieri, a cheerfully decorated apartment in Gaiole, a small town at the heart of Chianti. The accommodation, for up to four people, is on the ground floor of a larger property, occupied by the owner’s family and makes a great base from which to explore this rich, wine-producing region. It works well for both couples and small groups of family or friends, being well-provided for and eminently practical.

Thanks to Ciacchieri’s position on a slight rise, one of your three terraces offers a vine-covered pergola with views across rooftops – a great spot for an evening drink or afternoon daydreaming. A second terrace, immediately outside your kitchen, will be a favourite for meals at any time of day. The third is a lovely sun spot, around the private pool, hidden on a secluded lower level. The beautifully kept small garden is a lovely spot to relax in. And, thanks to its thriving vegetable patch tended by the generous owner, you can enjoy freshly picked produce whenever you feel like eating at home. It’s difficult to beat that, but local restaurants are also just a short walk away – you’ll return home having enjoyed a true taste of Italy. You’ll be spoilt for choice in terms of day trips: the bigger guns of Siena, San Gimignano, Florence and Arezzo mark out the points of the compass, but there’s much to enjoy pottering more locally in Castellina, Radda and Greve.
