But it will be hard to drag yourself away from your comfy perch, a peaceful spot where you can revel in truly spectacular views from the outdoor terraces and two lovely private pools set amid the olive trees. This combination of two stone houses is a good choice for a large group of up to 17 guests, a place to spend time together yet enjoy some independence. Villa Colle di Sotto has six bedrooms split in two apartments, with private entrances yet the convenience of an interconnecting door, and Cottage Colle di Sotto is a separate two-bedroom villa.

Villa Colle di Sotto’s ground-floor apartment has a spacious lounge, dining room and kitchen, behind which the three bedrooms are tucked away. This is a cheery space, boldly decorated in vivid pinks, blues and yellows, yet still retaining original features, such as the terracotta tiles on the ceilings and floors.

The first-floor apartment, styled in pastel shades, is just as spacious and comfortable with a similar mix of antique and modern furniture. The large double sitting room has relaxing sofas and a dining table. Off here lie the three bedrooms, including a master en-suite. The well-equipped kitchen on this floor leads to a furnished balcony, a sunny place for a morning coffee with a spectacular view.

Step through the large French windows of Cottage Colle di Sotto and you'll discover a large kitchen-diner off which lie two en-suite double bedrooms, one with doors to the grounds. On the mezzanine above, a relaxing sitting room provides a cool retreat from the Tuscan sun. It may be the smaller of the two villas, but it’s home to their biggest attraction, the infinity pool. Take a dip in here and you’ll feel like you’re swimming into those glorious, mesmerising views.
