The vineyards that produce world-leading wines roll out before you towards Radda, one of the historic towns that have thrived down the centuries from the grapes grown here. Indeed, you could pass your time tasting famous vintages at local wineries, especially with venerable names such as Castello di Volpaia literally on your doorstep. But it’s easy to make day trips to Florence and Siena, too, both of which promise a feast for the eyes.

That refreshing private pool can be found in the garden on the lower-ground level of this two-storey stone villa, which bears all the lovely hallmarks of a typical Tuscan house, with terracotta floors and tiled and beamed ceilings, and is decorated with an attractive mix of modern and antique furnishings.

The upper level is where you’ll find the spacious open-plan living area, generously divided up with the use of graceful brick and wood-edge arches into two comfy living rooms, a dining area with kitchen, and a study.
