If you can take your eyes off that view, there are other distractions worthy of your time. At the nearby medieval hamlet of Buggiano, crowned by a castle, you can pick up essential shopping. Venture a little further and you’ll find more choice among the chic streets of Montecatini Terme, as renowned for its designer shops as its ancient hot springs. Grand day trips beckon in Pisa, Pistoia and Lucca, which is also the home of the annual Puccini Festival.

But these mesmerising views will keep calling you back to this perfectly private perch. You can gaze at the landscape through the windows of the villa, too. Here there's another open-plan arrangement for lounging, dining and cooking and two further bedrooms and bathrooms. These lucky guests also have access to an elevated terrace – there's no getting away from those fabulous views at this luxurious villa.
