San Romolo

This restored farmhouse, less than an hour’s drive south of Florence, has much to offer. Its location in the gently rolling foothills of the Chianti guarantees a peaceful retreat, yet the glories of Florence, Siena, San Gimignano and Volterra are within easy reach. From your private pool, which sits in a sheltered corner of the garden beneath the villa, you look out at a patchwork of olive groves, vineyards and woodland.

San Romolo’s five bedrooms – four in the main house, one in a charming studio annexe across the garden – can host 10 guests with ease. The villa will suit groups of family or friends equally. The single-storey studio, which has its own small terrace, living area and kitchenette, is ideal for any members of the group who would appreciate additional privacy. However, the villa’s double lounge with a TV area at one end, a kitchen-diner that opens on to a shaded terrace and a sunny poolside, all ensure that there are plenty of areas for shared downtime. 

We think San Romolo has all the ingredients for a memorable holiday with the best that Tuscany has to offer. You are in a peaceful spot a short walk from the picturesque medieval hamlet of Barberino Val d’Elsa, where you’ll find several small places to eat and enjoy a drink, a van visits the house every day with fresh bread, you can even forget the hassles of traffic and parking and take the bus to Florence from nearby Tavarnelle. Shared al-fresco meals on the main terrace are sure to be among your most-valued moments.
