Yet, you will find you are just 10 minutes’ drive from Gaiole, one of the most important local wine-making towns and a gateway to the region.

This villa is a must-stay for wine lovers. You could easily enjoy a tasting at a different vineyard every day of your holiday. Rocca di Castagnoli, Capannelle, and Castello de Meleto are just three neighbouring ones to try. Plan an autumn trip and you could experience the Chianti Wine Festival in historic Greve, where all the producers from across the region converge each September. But make time, too, for sightseeing excursions to Florence and Siena, both within an easy drive.

Small yet perfectly formed, this barn is spread across two storeys. On ground level, there is a free-flowing living space, which seamlessly connects a kitchen, dining room and lounge, all three spaces focused on the glorious countryside beyond the large windows. There are two double bedrooms, both ensuite, one is tucked away at the rear of the ground floor, the other on a mezzanine level, with a door to a private patio.

But the main attraction is the terrace in front of the living area. Here you’ll find a sundeck and infinity pool, a barbecue and an indulgent hottub. And on the west side of the house, a pergola has been perfectly positioned for sundowners – perhaps a glass from that bottle you picked up earlier at the cellar door.
